What strong looks like
Operator mindset: went deep enough into a manual, messy process to understand it themselves before fixing it, then automated or productized it. Runs four or five workstreams at once and can say where they cut. Learned an arcane domain fast and improved it as an outsider. Directs AI work without needing to build it: evals, cost per run, model capability. Designed controls where mistakes were expensive.
Core must-haves
- Ran several cross-functional programs at once and can say how they sequenced and where they cut
- Operator mindset: went deep into a manual process themselves before automating or productizing it
- Communication with executives, engineers, and operators; writes specs and decision records others execute from
- Ownership in ambiguity: took a program with no owner and no scaffolding to an outcome
- Technical fluency to direct engineers: can read a design, judge a trade-off, and spot a risk
- Correctness and controls where mistakes are expensive: invariants, approvals, audit trails
Across every profile: ownership in ambiguity; communication that survives a follow-up; ai-native practice; verifiable outcomes.
Good to have
- Applied-AI direction: has chosen what to automate with AI and measured it
- Infrastructure, reliability, or security program experience for the platform sub-profile
- Customer deployment or field TPM experience
- A regulated or arcane domain learned from outside
- Data and metrics fluency: built the dashboard the program runs on
- Forward-deployed, solutions, or ops-engineering background
Seniority
Open from recent graduates to 15 or more years. We read level from what you have owned, not from years or brand. What the evidence looks like at each stage:
New grad to 2 years. Rare in the market. A program coordinator or ops analyst who personally fixed a process, judged on the operator story and the live scenario.
2 to 5 years. Runs two or three workstreams, has cut scope, has one controls story.
5 to 10 years. Runs four or five workstreams, has killed one, directs engineers, has learned an arcane domain fast.
10 to 15+ years. Sets the operating model others run, owns org-level programs, has built the function. Staff and senior-staff TPM titles.
What to bring
- Two or three pieces of real work that fit the must-haves: how it came about, what was yours, what was reused, how you did it, what broke and how you fixed it.
- How you work with AI agents. Where does AI sit in how you run programs today, specs, analysis, automation of the process itself, or directing engineers who build with it?
- What you’re looking for, and your constraints, which stay private.
